Inquiry Progress: Week 2

Well, I didn't get my video made yet, but I did pratice using the camera. : ) I will begin my sign language sessions tomorrow, hopefully taping the introductory lesson. Other than that, not much more to report right now. Here's to a successful week!

  1. Funny- my undergrads just did papers on literacy topics and two people picked sign language with ELL students. I told them that you were also doing an inquiry- I think sign language is a great multi-modal way of communicating and really can work with all populations- not just ELL and special ed but with all kids. I am eager to hear how it goes- good luck.

I found that in my ELL first grade classroom, at the beginning of the year when we were still reviewing letter names and sounds, that sign language really helped my ELLs remember the names of letters. I often noted them making the symbol with their hands when we were practicing. I think this gave them both a visual and something concrete to help them remember. Good luck with sign language, I'm sure it'll be great!
